Mao Yuqiu
11-20.6.2021
“When a person wears many hands, he becomes an antagonist of the world,”
MAO Yuqui is interested in recording and reshaping the violence of interpersonal communication. Pointed fingers, unwanted opinions and unmoderated comments, being bombarded with corporate advertisements and political propaganda; the works of MAO Yuqui suggest that all forms of communication are embedded with violence of which we are all both victims and perpetrators.
With her works presented at Prenzlauer Studio as humourful devices or “weapons” of communication, MAO Yuqiu seeks to bridge the distance created by this recurring and re-inflicted trauma through interpersonal violence, allowing for scenarios in which connection and communication might take new forms.
